Level 1 Introduction to Focused Brief Group Therapy: An evidence-based, “brief Yalom” approach to treating interpersonal distress

Focused brief group therapy (Whittingham, 2024, APA Press) is an evidence-based approach to treating interpersonal distress in eight sessions or less.  Suitable for counseling centers, agencies and outpatient settings, it works on improving social flexibility using measurement-based care to enhance treatment outcomes.  It is a semi-structured approach with a clear framework based on evidence-based processes linked to concrete, measurable outcomes. The founder, Dr. Martyn Whittingham, will lead the workshop explaining core theoretical ideas and processes in FBGT.  He will demonstrate how the model can tailor treatment, accelerate group processes, prevent dropout and manage complex group dynamics.  This course is designed as an introduction to the approach and as a prerequisite to Levels 2 and 3 that focus on techniques and application.
